Natividad Amador

Hailing from the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, the region of Mexico that inspired much of Frida Kahlo’s wardrobe, Natividad paints with thread. Her work is the most beautiful traditionally inspired, contemporary textile work I know. She has a background both in the traditional embroidery that Juchitan and the Isthmus is famous for and training as a painter. She melds the both with tremendous elegance. Yet despite her considerable talent, she isn’t particularly well known. Like a good artist, she spends most of her time creating and much less getting her work out into the world. We offer you a peek here. If you want to see more, well, Natividad doesn’t have a website or Instagram. She is wonderfully old world. But you can track her down on Facebook. Or join us on our Frida’s Wardrobe tour and visit her at home. Don’t forget to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content like this.
